a little backstory

Fremont Gardens signageFremont Gardens was founded in 1995 by Lorene Edwards Forkner, Ann Evans , and Karen Souza as a tiny, full-service nursery and garden center to serve the greater Seattle gardening community.  These were the heady days of crazed perennial gardening and anyone in the Pacific Northwest with two nickels to rub together was opening a specialty nursery.

Located in a primarily industrial neighborhood north of downtown Seattle, Fremont Gardens went on to win the respect and loyal following of gardeners near and far.  Evans left the nursery in 1999 to care for her twin daughters and Souza relocated to New York in 2001; Lorene continued the business with the able assistance of a tremendously knowledgeable, devoted and hardworking staff until September 2007 when she closed the business to pursue a more flexible schedule and focus on other aspects of life.  Fremont Gardens remains in the hearts of many as a unique, quirky and beloved enterprise; the little nursery that lived large.
