Think you’ve seen everything under the sun at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show? Well think again! How about a walk among hundreds of fluttering live butterflies to set your heart a’ patter?
This year’s family-friendly “Butterfly House” exhibit will bring out the kid in all of us. Designed to teach about the life cycle of a butterfly, visitors to the display tent get to take a tour where they can interact with over 300 live butterflies.
Sponsored by U.S. Bank and free with admission to the show, the colorful interactive exhibit takes children and families through three main areas: the butterfly house, the life-cycle kiosk and the activity pavilion. For $10 you can purchase a “Butterfly Hatching Kit,” for further butterfly adventures at home. Proceeds from the sale of these kits will go to benefit the Seattle Children’s PlayGarden.
I first wrote about the Play Garden here. I commend show producer Terry O’ Loughlin and U.S. Bank, sponsor of the Butterfly House for their outreach into the community and support of this exciting project taking shape at Seattle’s Colman Playfield. After all, “real” gardens are where its really at! Stay tuned for how you can “Grow” this garden for families and kids of all abilities, right here in our own backyard.
