Hi Jackie, this recipe could be frozen or it will remain good in the refrigerator for a couple of months. To be shelf-stable beyond that you would want to process the jars in a water-bath. However, the apple butter recipes yields a very thick, dense texture; be sure to follow processing times for a specific apple butter recipe as the thicker the contents the longer the processing time is so heat can penetrate all the way to the center of the jar. Best of luck!

Thanks for the easy apple butter recipe! I'm planning to make applesauce and apple butter soon from the apples on my tree. Hmmm...what about if I want to "can" the apple butter, so that it will keep for a year?

My family has a good oven-baked apple butter recipe. We, too, hated that "stand-at-the-stove-forever then burn the apple butter" moment.

A Happy Autumn to you!
