It’s a banner blue door day!

The inside of our front door is periwinkle blue – actually most of the doors in our house are periwinkle blue.  I believe in picking a motif and running with it.  Anyway, this front door is the backdrop for every significant event in the Edwards Forkner household…prom, driver’s license, new book, etc…but never more so than the First Day Of School.  We have taken pictures of the kids in front of this door every year for – well, however long they’ve been in school.  Here’s what I wrote about last year’s blue door day.

But yesterday was different.  This is the picture of our daughter before she goes off to TEACH her first kindergarten class.  OK, technically this was the night before the morning she goes off to teach those lucky kids but given that 1) she doesn’t live here and 2) she has to leave for work at O dark:30 we were lucky to get the shot.

Hilary had some extrodinary teachers during her school years; significantly in elementary school.  Strong, engaging, powerful women who encouraged, mentored, and propelled her to this point.  Today she is poised to go into that world of sticky little kids, some with special needs, all with huge potential, change their lives and empower their minds.  It’s an incredibly noble profession; we are so proud.

Watch out world…Ms. Forkner’s in the classroom!!!
